Looking through a dirty window can feel disappointing and can certainly block your beautiful view. This can be a prominent issue during the spring winds, especially if you have a sea-facing home or you live near a beach. But fret not, this article is going to give you the best tips for window cleaning. Let’s get started.
1. Use the right tools
Cleaning your windows and gates is a task and to be successful, you need the right tools in your arsenal.
So, start with gathering the right cleaning equipment such as a window squeegee, several soft and clean microfiber cloths, stepping stools, ladders, etc. Also, if you are not sure about using ladders or extension ladders, you can get your cleaning done by a professional.
Next, get the right cleaning solution. If you want to really get those sparkling windows, you will have to find specialized cleaning solutions that can remove all the grime, sand, or cobwebs from your windows. You can try this easy cleaning combo:
Mix in a spray bottle 1/4 cup of white vinegar with 2 and 1/2 cups of water, plus 1/2 teaspoon of dish soap.
2. Clear the Space
Before you start the actual cleaning, it is necessary to remove all the impediments from your way such as drapes, screens, blinds, furniture, or bushes for exterior work.
3. Clean Everything
Finally, get your grip on that squeeze, spray the solution, and remove it using the squeeze in a way that there are no marks or streaks on the glass. Keep doing it until your windows are clean.
Once you have cleaned the windows, clean nearby spaces such as the frames, sills, etc. Launder the drapes, clean the slats of your curtains, wash your doormat for doors cleaning, etc. All this work might seem like overkill, but once you are finished, it will be worth admiring.
4. Additional Tips
For windows and window frames, don't forget to dust them before cleaning. This will not let the dust spread in your room as you clean the windows.
Dry your windows with a clean, lint-free towel in horizontal motions so that there are no streaks on the windows.
For your window frames, you can use warm soapy water for cleaning. However, make sure the window frames are completely dry before you reinstall them, especially if they are made of wood or metal. Also, it is highly recommended that you pay attention to touch points such as the bottom of the sash or the lock as they are dirtier than other areas.
Clean the sills by vacuum hose’s attachment. This will suck up all the dirt and dust from the sills.
While you are washing the curtains, don't forget to check the tag on them for machine washing or drying guidance.
Clean your doors using water, mild soap, and a microfiber cloth. If you have wooden doors, never use a glass cleaner or acid-based (vinegar) cleaner on them.
Finally, use some diluted bleach solution to disinfect your doorknobs.
